We never leave a job half-done.

Fourteen carpenters, masons and tile setters on our own payroll. Scroll and we build the house for you.

From foundation to move-in

The same crew the whole way.

No hired-in crews and no new project lead halfway through. That is why we can offer a five-year warranty.

When we leave

We leave the site clean and inspected.

An independent inspector, every punch-list item fixed, and the lot cleaned up before the final invoice.

What we do

Four kinds of jobs,
and we say no to the rest.

We have stuck to the same work for eighteen years, so we can tell you what a job costs before we start, not after.

New house going up
01

New homes

Houses and cabins, from permits to move-in ready. We handle the town for you.

Addition with a large glass wall
02

Additions and remodels

More room in the house you already have. Usually cheaper than moving, and almost always faster.

Newly remodeled tiled bathroom
03

Kitchens and baths

Wet rooms built to code, with paperwork when we finish. Licensed in-house electricians and plumbers.

New siding and metal roof
04

Roofing and siding

Siding, stucco, metal and tile. We check the roof deck to see what the house really needs before we quote.

The Miller house

A 1970s house the family had outgrown. We took down the deck, added 260 square feet to the south and redid the siding at the same time, which cost less than doing it in two rounds.

Kitchen in a 1900s house

The kitchen was from the 1990s and had been built right on top of the old one. We took it down to the studs, leveled the floor and kept the trim around the windows, since it was original and in good shape.

Roof and siding, Verona

The siding had gone unpainted too long and the roof deck was soft in two places. We replaced what was bad and kept the rest. Not everything had to come off, and you cannot tell from the result.

Inside

Most of what we build
you cannot see from the street.

We design and build stairs, closets, bookcases and window seats ourselves in our shop in Montclair. It is the part of the job we are proudest of, and the part that rarely makes it into photos.

Living room with a stone fireplace and a glass wall facing the fall garden
Living room, the Miller houseThe fireplace is limestone, the glass runs floor to ceiling along the whole south wall, and we left the glulam beams exposed when the family asked.
Open oak staircase on a wrought iron frame
Oak and iron staircaseTreads in 2-1/2 inch solid oak, set on a frame we designed with a local blacksmith in Newark.
Built-in oak bookcase around a window seat
Bookcase with window seatBuilt in place around a window we kept. The shelves are smoked oak, the seat is covered in linen.
Built-in oak closet wall in a bedroom
Closet wallTwenty-three feet of built-ins, with finger pulls instead of handles. No stock doors fit, so we made our own.

How it works

Five steps, so you always know where the job stands.

  1. Site visit

We come to your house, look and measure. It is free and takes an hour.

  2. Quote

In writing, line by line, within a week. A fixed price when we can and time and materials when we cannot, and we tell you which.

  3. Kickoff

We go over the schedule, who does what, and where you should park while we are there.

  4. The build

A progress report with photos every Friday. If something changes, we call you the same day, so it never shows up first on the final bill.

  5. Inspection

An independent inspector, and we fix every punch-list item before the final invoice goes out.

Part of the crew at a job site

The crew

There are fourteen of us, and you see the same crew the whole way.

My dad started the company in 2008 with a van and a compressor. I took over in 2019. We have grown slowly on purpose. Everyone who works here is on our payroll, nobody is hired in, and that is why we can offer a five-year warranty.

If we do not have time, we say so. We will not take the job and do it badly.
