The cabins along the boardwalk on a summer evening The cabins in snow on a winter evening

Forest hotel · rentals · guided trips

The forest starts at your bedside.

Twelve cabins spread over a hundred acres, a quarter mile apart. From yours you cannot see another building, and the only road in ends up at the parking lot.

Right now: the evenings are long, the canoes are in the water and the blueberries ripen in early August.

The cabins

237 square feet,
and 97 of them are glass.

All twelve are the same, so there is no suite and no upgrade to pay extra for. The only difference between them is what grows outside.

Book

Nights, gear
and guided trips.

You book nights, gear and trips separately, and you do not need to stay here to rent a canoe or join a morning trip.

  • Free cancellation up to seven days before arrival.
  • Two-night minimum in July and over Christmas and New Year's. The rest of the year a single night is just fine.
  • Dogs are welcome in four of the twelve cabins. Just let us know when you book.

Summer

June to September.

In July the lake is around 70°F and the light lasts until almost ten at night. The canoes are in the water from May and the bikes are out all season.

The grounds

Three buildings and a dock.

The rest of the land is forest. We have built as little as we could, and everything here rests on piers.

Good to know

What to know
before you come.

We are out of the way on purpose, and that comes with a couple of things you should know ahead of time.

Getting here

Two hours from Duluth and four from Minneapolis. The last three miles are gravel road, and we plow it ourselves in winter.

Parking

Your car stays at the entrance, and from there it is an eleven-minute walk on the boardwalk. If you would rather not carry your bags, we bring them down on a cart.

Food

Breakfast is included. We serve dinner Thursday through Sunday, one set menu for $58. The rest of the week there is a shared kitchen in the bathhouse.

Cell service

You get a signal by the breakfast room and up at the parking lot, but not down by the cabins. We do not plan to change that.

Accessibility

Two of the cabins have a wheelchair ramp, and the bathhouse is accessible. The boardwalk to them is level the whole way.

Kids

Kids are welcome. An extra bed for a child under twelve is $25 a night, and there is a shallow cove for swimming by the dock.
