Frosted glass bottle on a limestone shelf in soft daylight

Since 2019  ·  Camden, Maine

Three products,
no more.

A serum, a cream, a cleanser. Fourteen ingredients in total, mixed by hand in batches of two hundred bottles.

Our approach

Most skincare brands grow by adding products. We have kept to three since day one.

On this coast it rains two hundred days a year.
That is what makes the sea buckthorn grow the way it does.

II  Ingredients

Fourteen ingredients,
and we can name them all.

Most skincare products contain thirty to sixty ingredients. We use fourteen, because we want to be able to tell you what each one does.

  • Sea buckthorn oil Owls Head, Maine
  • Niacinamide 3%
  • Flaxseed oil Midcoast Maine
  • Rapeseed wax Pressed in Unity, Maine
  • Glycerin Plant-based
  • Tocopherol Vitamin E

The full ingredient list is on every bottle and on the product page. No fragrance, no color.

III  Origin

Everything grows within
75 miles of here.

The sea buckthorn is picked on the rocks at Owls Head. The flax is grown on a farm outside Unity. We drive up and collect it ourselves in September, and we know who harvested it.

Unity  ·  42 miles

Flax

Grown by the same farm since 2020. The seeds are pressed on site, and the oil comes straight to us.

The harvest  ·  once a year

One batch at a time

We buy the whole year's harvest in advance. If it runs short, we make fewer bottles instead of switching ingredients.

Birch leaves with raindrops, one drop about to fall
Birch. We use nothing from the birch, but we wait until it has dropped its leaves to start the batch. That is when the sea buckthorn is sweetest.

  • Nothing from animals. Not in the products and not in testing.
  • No fragrance. What you smell is the oils themselves.
  • Grown without pesticides in everything we grow ourselves or buy straight from the farm. The glycerin is the exception.
  • Glass and paper. Send the bottle back and get $5 off your next one.

IV  The routine

Two minutes in the morning.
Three at night.

Morning

1. Rinse with lukewarm water. You do not need the cleanser in the morning.

2. Serum No. 1, three drops, on damp skin.

3. Day Cream No. 2 once the serum has absorbed.

Night

1. Cleanser No. 3 on dry skin, massage, rinse.

2. Serum No. 1, three drops.

3. Day Cream No. 2 if your skin feels tight.

V  The workshop

Two hundred bottles at a time.

We mix everything ourselves, in a room with windows facing the river. Every batch gets a number printed on the label, and we keep one bottle from each batch for two years.

That means we sometimes sell out. We think that is better than outsourcing production and losing control of what goes into the bottle.

VI  The founders

Two people
and a kitchen in Camden.

Nordvik started in a kitchen in Camden in 2019. Ida is a chemist who was tired of formulating products she would never use herself. Peter comes from the restaurant business and knows what it takes to make small batches properly.

If an ingredient runs out, we say so. We do not cut corners on how the product is made.
